About me

Christine Bass graduated from Karen Pryor Academy in 2017 after working with puppies at Ahimsa Dog Training Center in Ballard and shelter pups at the Seattle Humane Society for a couple of years.  She went on to work with hundreds of dogs while volunteering with two different outstanding dog behaviorists at Seattle Animal Shelter from 2018-2022. With a specialty in dog behavior and dog training, she founded Wildwood Canine in 2019 and has consulted and coached hundreds of private dog behavior clients and taught classes in Scent-work, Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt and Canine Parkour at Four Paw Sports Center in Lynnwood.  She completed her CBCC-KA in 2024 designating her as a certified dog behavior consultant. Christine's pursuit of knowledge is ongoing through conferences, continuing education, ongoing dedication to working with shelter and rescue organizations and learning from colleagues to bring my clients the safest, kindest, most effective, and modern training strategies.

Training Methodologies

The way I approach everything behavior related is through a lens of helping all of the family members feel safer, happier, calmer and more comfortable. This is not an obedience or discipline based methodology. I will never use anything that causes fear, pain or intimidation. I also never judge people for the choices that they have made or any methodologies that they have tried. I always assume that pet guardians are approaching everything that they do in good faith and making the best choices that they can for themselves and their dogs and family. I only want to help you find a path forward that works for everyone. I use management based strategies for safety. We rely on the choices we make and how we set up the environment to support the dogs, humans and other pets in our lives. After that we assess the underlying reasons for the behavior and use all avenues available to us to help our dogs feel better and make the best possible choices that they are able to. Training can involve teaching our dogs new behaviors sometimes but more often it involves exposing them to situations at a low enough threshold that they are able to make different choices that satisfy the needs of both the humans and the dogs. This looks different in every situation and I always strive to create training plans that are easy to implement for the humans and have the best chance of creating the environment and life that we want to have with our dogs.
